Transparent Inks

About Dye-Type Marking Inks

Dye-type inks create visible but translucent markings. They primarily differ from other inks in their composition and how they interact with the substrate. Dye-type inks often have a more limited color selection, offer faster drying times, and avoid complications that can arise from pigmentation build-up.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Non-Settling & Non-Plugging: Dye-type marking inks are made by dissolving dye molecules in a liquid, which prevents them from plugging and settling during use.
  • Ideal for Low-Throughput Applications: This ink type works incredibly well for low-throughput applications like reject marking because they dry quickly, provide high contrast, and provide more permanent markings that are more difficult to remove.
  • Excellent for Light-Colored & Metallic Surfaces: These dyes are transparent, which means they can be highly visible on both light-colored and bright metal surfaces. Dye type inks are not compatible with dark-colored substrates.
  • Quick Drying Options: Our dye-type marking inks have various dry times, ranging from 10 seconds to 15 minutes, depending on your needs.

Our Color Options

Carco’s marking inks are available in eight transparent colors and various dry times.

Please note that these are representative colors. The final appearance on your part will vary with formula, application method, and substrate.

Our Dye-Type Marking Inks

1044A super fast drying non-settling acetone based dye type marking fluid primarily used in non-contact marking systems. Often used in combination with eddy current, NDT and Ultrasonic equipment when one wishes to visibly identify defects on very fast moving webs, tubing or parts. Dry time on part +/- 10 seconds.
1000-IA fast dry non-settling dye type marking fluid with excellent oil penetration and adhesion on all porous and non-porous surfaces. Generally used in Carco "jet shot" and spray system applications. Also used with the Carco ES-712-A Spring Marker. Dry time on part ranges anywhere from 25 seconds to 1 minute depending on the application.
1000-NA medium fast dry non-settling dye type marking fluid. The 1000-N has excellent oil penetration and adhesion on a variety of porous and non-porous surfaces and is often used in Carco "jet shot" and spray system applications. Also used with the Carco ES-712-A Spring Marker. Dry time on part about 2-3 minutes.
1000-HFA high flash, slow dry non-settling dye type marking fluid primarily use where flammability and safety are primary considerations. The 1000-HF series is used with all Carco Spring/Contact marking systems. Dry time on part being marked about 15+ minutes.
1000-I FluorescentA fast dry solvent based "invisible" marking fluid activated by 366 nm ultraviolet light. Other versions of the 1000-I Series are available in a variety of dry times Fluorescent enhanced dye type (visible) inks are also available in a limited number of additional colors. The marking fluid is designed for automatic luminescent or UV activated applications.

Applications

  • Metal Fabrication: Dye-type inks are highly visible, even on bright metal surfaces, can withstand industrial environments, and are compatible with automated marking systems used in metal fabrication applications like NDT reject marking and marking cut points on coiled material.
  • Paper & Packaging: Our translucent inks won’t bleed, even on porous surfaces, offer permanent markings, and can be used on various types of paper and packaging materials. We even carry specialty invisible fluorescent dye-type ink visible under UV light for covert marking applications.
  • Spring & Wire: Dye-type marking inks have excellent flowability, ensuring a steady marking stream with no clogs, and will provide a visible mark, even on bright finishes and curved surfaces.
